The hotel industry has long been scolded for being behind the times when it comes to adopting new technology. That largely dates back to the late 1990s, when brands were slow to get into the online booking game, and then in the mid-2000s, hotels also lagged in upgrading in-room technology.


Today, hotels have caught up and offer many innovative amenities such as robot room service and artificial intelligence when checking in.


However, the topic of blockchain, a type of digital ledger that can securely record transactions between two parties with encrypted information, has become a divisive subject amongst hoteliers.
